Troubleshooting Platform Connection Issues

Platform connections can fail due to expired OAuth tokens, revoked permissions, or changed account passwords. This guide walks through diagnosing and fixing connection errors for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and X.

Understanding Platform Connections

When you connect a social media account to Aibrify, you authorize us to schedule and publish on your behalf via the platform's API. This authorization uses a system called OAuth — it grants Aibrify a temporary access token without sharing your password.

These tokens can expire or become invalid for several reasons:

- Token expiry — Most platforms refresh tokens every 60–90 days

- Password change — Changing your social media account password invalidates existing tokens

- Permission revoked — You (or someone with account access) revoked Aibrify's authorization via the platform's connected apps settings

- Account changes — Changing your Facebook page role, converting a personal to a business account, or migrating platforms can break connections

Identifying a Connection Problem

Navigate to: Dashboard → Settings → Connected Platforms

Each connected platform shows a status indicator:

- Green (Connected) — Active, no action needed

- Yellow (Warning) — Connection is approaching expiry or has minor issues; reconnection recommended

- Red (Disconnected) — Active connection broken; content cannot be scheduled or published

You may also see a banner at the top of your dashboard, or receive an email notification.

Standard Fix: Reconnect

For most connection errors, reconnecting resolves the issue:

  1. Go to Dashboard → Settings → Connected Platforms
  2. Click Reconnect next to the affected platform
  3. You'll be redirected to the platform's login page — log in with the account you want to connect
  4. Approve the permissions Aibrify requests
  5. You'll be returned to the dashboard with a "Connected" status

Important: Log in with the account that owns the social media page or profile — not a personal account unless it's an admin of that business page.

Platform-Specific Issues

Instagram

Instagram connections require your account to be a Professional Account (Creator or Business). Personal accounts cannot be connected.

If Instagram reconnection fails:

- Confirm your account is set to Professional (Instagram → Profile → Edit Profile → Account Type)

- Check that your Instagram account is linked to a Facebook page (required for Instagram API access)

- Try disconnecting and reconnecting via Facebook's connected apps: Facebook → Settings → Business Integrations

Facebook

Facebook connections are managed through Meta Business Suite. If your page connection breaks:

- Ensure you are an Admin of the Facebook page you're trying to connect (not just an Editor or Moderator)

- Check that your personal Facebook account (which owns the page) is still active

- If your page was transferred or its roles changed, you'll need to reconnect with the new owner's credentials

TikTok

TikTok tokens expire more frequently than other platforms. If you reconnect frequently:

- Ensure you're using a TikTok Business Account (not a personal account)

- Avoid logging into TikTok from multiple devices or browsers rapidly — this can trigger security measures that invalidate tokens

LinkedIn

LinkedIn connections are for LinkedIn Pages (company pages), not personal profiles. Connection failures often occur when:

- Your personal LinkedIn account no longer has admin access to the company page

- The company page was transferred to a different admin

- Your LinkedIn password was changed

X (Twitter)

X connections use standard OAuth. If you changed your X username or password after connecting, you'll need to reconnect.

When Reconnection Doesn't Work

If you've tried reconnecting and the platform still shows as disconnected:

Step 1: Fully disconnect first

1. Go to Dashboard → Settings → Connected Platforms

2. Click Disconnect next to the platform

3. Confirm the disconnection

Step 2: Clear the connection from the platform side

- Go to the platform's settings and remove Aibrify from connected apps or authorized applications (the exact path varies by platform)

Step 3: Reconnect from scratch

- Return to Dashboard → Settings → Connected Platforms → + Add Platform

- Follow the full authorization flow again

Step 4: If still failing, contact support

Message your team via Dashboard → Messages with:

- Which platform is affected

- What happens when you try to reconnect (exact error message if available)

- A screenshot if possible

Impact of Disconnected Platforms

When a platform is disconnected:

- Scheduled posts for that platform will not be published

- The content remains in your calendar with a "Failed" or "Pending" status

- Your Aibrify team will be alerted and will contact you to reconnect

Once you reconnect, your team reviews the queue and reschedules any posts that missed their window.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do platform connections expire?

Token expiry varies by platform. Instagram and Facebook tokens last approximately 60 days, LinkedIn tokens last 60 days, TikTok tokens can expire more frequently, and X tokens typically last longer (or until you change your password). You'll receive a notification before expiry.

My posts failed to publish while a platform was disconnected — will my team reschedule them?

Yes. Once you reconnect, your team reviews any posts that failed to publish and reschedules them at appropriate times. They will message you to confirm the rescheduling plan if there are several missed posts.
