Click-Through Rate (CTR)

Click-through rate (CTR) is the percentage of people who clicked a link or call-to-action in your post or ad out of the total number who saw it.

How CTR Is Calculated

(Total Clicks ÷ Total Impressions) × 100 = CTR%

For example, if 1,000 people saw your post and 25 clicked the link, your CTR is 2.5%.

Why CTR Matters

CTR bridges the gap between social media engagement and business results. A high CTR means your content is compelling people to take action beyond the platform — visiting your website, signing up for a list, or viewing a product.

Average CTRs by Platform

CTRs vary significantly by platform and content type:

- Facebook Ads: Average ~0.9–1.5% for feed ads

- Instagram Ads: Similar to Facebook; Stories often perform differently than feed

- LinkedIn Ads: Lower volume but typically higher quality clicks; averages around 0.3–0.6%

- X (Twitter) Ads: Generally 1–3% for promoted posts

Organic CTRs are typically much lower because you compete with all other content in the feed and don't have targeting precision.

How to Improve CTR

  • Strong call-to-action (CTA): Be explicit about what you want the user to do
  • Link placement: On Instagram, remind users "Link in bio" since URLs aren't clickable in captions
  • Visual design: Arrows, text overlays, and thumbnails that signal "there's more here"
  • Relevance: The more targeted your audience, the more relevant your link feels
